Before the Easter Triduum commenced, Seminarians from each diocese returned to their Cathedrals to celebrate the Chrism Mass.
“The blessing of the Holy Oils is one of the most ancient and beautiful ceremonies in the Church. Always celebrated in the Cathedral, by the Bishop surrounded by the Priests from his diocese, the Chrism Mass manifests the communion of the Priests with their Bishop.The rich symbolism of oil explains the fact of its choice; it is fuel for the flame, a healing balm for the sick, a strengthening anointing for the athlete, so naturally it suggests illumination, assuaging of pain, and the strength of which it is to become the effective sign.”
